How Do I Change The Favicon
By default when you first install the latest version of Joomla 1.5 the standard favicon.ico file is displayed in the top left hand area of the browser.
This tutorial will explain how you can replace the standard favicon with your own favicon.ico file.
What will you need to complete this tutorial
- FTP access to update and upload the favicon.ico file to your template directory
- Imaging software to create the GIF, PNG or JPEG image for the favicon.ico
Step 1 : Create the image for the Favicon.ico
The first thing you need to do is create a GIF, PNG or JPEG image which will be converted to a favicon.ico format
The image size should be 16px by 16px
To do this we recommend you find an image or maybe your company logo and open the image using Adobe Photoshop or Adobe Fireworks and reduce the image size to 16px by 16px. Save the image as a GIF, PNG or JPEG
Step 2: Convert the image to a Favicon.ico file
The next step is to convert the GIF, JPEG or PNG file to a .ico format.
- Visit the Favicon Generator web site
- At the web site select the Browse button and select the 16px by 16px image file you have created for the Favicon
- Choose the size 16px by 16px
- Select the generate Favicon button to generate the new file
Step 3 : Upload the Favicon.ico file to the template directory
Open your FTP client and upload the new favicon.ico file to your template directory under templates/your_template_name/favicon.ico
Step 4 : Clear your browser cache
The final step is to clear your web browser cache before visiting the web site to view the update Favicon.ico file
Once you have cleared the browser cache visit your web site and the updated version of the favicon.ico file will now appear in your browser.
