Template Permissions

If you are attempting to change index.php, xml or image files associated with the Joomla template via ftp you may run into a known issue relating to file ownership permissions for Joomla.

To resolve the above download the JoomlaXplorer component.

This is a really useful Joomla component which will enable you to manage and change the file and directory permissions on your server.

So if you wish to change the index.php file or image file and get a file permissions error  then you may need to install the above component.

Once the JoomlaXplorer component is installed you can open the component via the administrator and navigate to the specific template directory and set the relevent CHMOD permissions on the directory or file you wish to change.

We would advise changing the permissions for both the directories and files to CHMOD 777

Once you have changed the permissons then you can make changes to the template.

Please note after you have made the changes to the template ALWAYS change the permissions back to 755 for the folder/directories and 644 for files.
